What is the difference between gematria and numerology?

Gematria and numerology are both fascinating fields of study that have long been utilized to interpret the hidden meaning behind numbers. The concepts behind them have been used for centuries to explore the complexities of our universe and the messages concealed within.

At a basic level, both disciplines are concerned with understanding the power that lies within numbers and how these digits can be used to unlock clues about our lives, future events, and anything else of importance. But there are essential differences between gematria and numerology which make them drastically different fields of study.

Gematria is an ancient system of numerical interpretation, commonly associated with Jewish Kabalistic practice. This system was derived from Hebrew letters which are assigned numerical values and by breaking down words into individual letters, each with a corresponding numerical value, new meanings can be found in larger texts or phrases. For example, in Hebrew Gematria the term "peace" has a numerical value of 355 which can then be used to explore its additional meanings.

Numerology on the other hand is more personalized form of analysis often associated with New Age beliefs even though similar practices have existed since antiquity as well. Numerologists believe that everything in life has an underlying numerical meaning attached to it which you can use to gain valuable insight into yourself and your life path as a whole - by looking at things such as your birthdate, name or other words attributed to you directly you can gain a better understanding of who you are now and what lies ahead of you.
